Here’s a Quick Way to Reach Any Goal!
Posted by Saba on February 8, 2009
I’m in love with crepes. I make them with emerald kiwis, crunchy strawberries and blueberries bursting with juices. I use chocolate syrup, honey and whip cream as different toppings. In the beginning, I started with one recipe that called for butter. If I didn’t have butter, I felt frustrated. Then, I would forget the crepe or drop everything and run out to buy. But after making crepes several times without butter available (my family is not big on butter), I realized I had to find a new strategy to making them because the frustration was too much. I was hungry and I wanted crepes. Now I had to figure out a way to get from no crepes to an appetizing plate of this delicious desert. So that was my goal. Now think about YOUR goal because this simple article will show you how to quickly reach it.
Decide what you want
The first rule in reaching any goal is simply deciding what your goal is. Maybe you want a successful marriage so you make that your target. Maybe your goal is freedom from excess body fat so you make that your objective. Maybe you want to pray Fajr everyday so you identify that as your purpose. In my case, my goal was to have crepes so I identified that as my objective. The key is to decide what you want, leave the how for now. That can come later. Ask yourself, “what do I want?” thereby focusing on Point B.
Identify where you are now
So you decided what you want: successful marriage, healthy body, excellent Fajr record. Now, identify where you are now, point A. Point A ———–> Point B. For example, you identify that your body is x % fat right now (point A) and you decide to lower it to y % fat (point B). Once you’ve identified point A and decided your point B, now move to…
Choose and follow your path
This is the arrow section of the equation: Point A ———–> Point B. As a novice in making crepes, I thought I couldn’t make them without the butter. I thought there ‘only one arrow’. But the secret to getting to any goal quickly is to realize that there are many ways to get to the same goal. This is called being flexible and thinking creatively! Use your imagination and see what tools you have at point A. Then be flexible, think creative and run towards the successful marriage, healthy weight and excellent Fajr record. This doesn’t mean we can’t follow our role model’s recipes. I highly encourage you to ask that healthy sister for tips. And I highly encourage you to come up with your own solutions to become healthy as well.
I didn’t throw away the recipe because it called for butter. I knew it gave me the basic directions and I simply asked, “what can I use instead of butter now?” That’s where I stretched my creative muscles and thought of margarine. Yes, the crepe is a simple example and you’d be surprised how this simple technique works with more long-term goals like healthy weight. So get creative, decide your Point B, identify where your Point A is and then follow your arrow.
What quick ways do you use to reach your goals? I’m convinced I can learn from you!
